WellStar sites health park in Vinings
VININGS, Ga. — WellStar Health System will open an outpatient health park in Vinings near the intersection of Cumberland Parkway and Atlanta Road.
The company will begin construction on a three-story, 162,000-square-foot facility in early 2016 and open it in the fall of 2017.
WellStar opened a health park in Acworth three years ago and another in east Cobb County last year. The Vinings facility will be WellStar’s third in Cobb County.
According to an article in Marietta Daily Journal, patient visits grew from 107,000 in the first year to 172,000 this year at the Acworth health park. At the east Cobb facility patient visits have grown from 128,000 patient visits in the first year to a projected 170,000 this year.
The company chose Vinings for its next health park because of its high population density. WellStar has announced that after Vinings, its next health park will be in Cherokee County.
Joe Brywczynski, WellStar’s senior vice president of health parks development, said the health park being built on a 25-acre property will offer a variety of services, including an imaging center, urgent care, a sleep center, outpatient surgery, a bistro, physical therapy services and a community education and wellness center.
Brywczynski said the company’s research showed patients were losing time from work or school to take care of their health care needs because drive time to access a variety of services was so burdensome. He said the business strategy for WellStar is to have services clustered together, where traffic is not congested and parking is convenient.
Mayor Max Bacon said he appreciates that WellStar has pledged to employ local people for the project where possible.
