There’s a new carpet king in Bartow County. Shaw Industries Group Inc. recently announced plans to build a new $85 million facility this month.
The maker of modular carpet tiles will hire 500 workers for the 600,000-square-foot manufacturing facility. The new building will be built on 117.6 acres near the intersection of Highway 140 and Station Road. Construction is expected to start in 2014.
Shaw is the largest employer in the county. The company is also a large asset to the state, with 15,000 employees in Georgia.
“The steady comeback of the floor-covering industry in North Georgia continues to reflect the resurgence of the global economy,” Gov. Nathan Deal said in a statement. “Companies such as Shaw Industries are moving aggressively to meet demand, and Georgia stands ready to equip them with the trained workforce and infrastructure network they need.”
